Friends turned foes seeking an upgrade in the political world? Former Rochester Police Chief La’Ron Singletary announced he is running as a Republican against Congressman Joe Morelle in the upcoming election.
After months of speculation, Singletary confirmed his political aspirations Thursday on his website https://singletary4congress.com/. Rumors are also surfacing that ousted Mayor Lovely Warren will be announcing her plans to battle Assemblyman Demond Meeks for his seat.
Singletary and Warren’s professional relationship swirled out of control after the death of Daniel Prude. Prude died while in police custody, but his death was not reported publicly for months. Community outrage from activists across the city demanded answers and both of their resignations. A full investigation by an outside law office determined city officials indeed covered up the death of Prude. Warren eventually fired Singletary, who is now suing the city of Rochester & Warren.
Now the allies turned adversaries may end up working together if voted in.
