A classmate of mine commented on how a song I like from a few years ago is not quite in the here and now.
I have thought about that remark for years and came to a conclusion. For me, it doesn't matter how old a 21st century song is -- if I like the song, it is a song that I can return to and enjoy over and over again.
During the preteen years, I remember the radio features that would put certain songs at the top, including songs I didn't like. But unlike classical music, those hits don't stay in popular memory, really.
Go with what you like and forget the rest, I would say.
