What's the Real Number?

Former FDA chief Scott Gottlieb says that the real number of coronavirus cases in the United States could be a lot higher than what's reported. It could go as far as 10 or 20 times higher.

As of Tuesday, nearly 788,000 cases were reported in the US and at least 42,364 deaths. If Gottlieb is right, we could have 8 million to 15.75 million cases in the US. Furthermore, the death rate could be a lot lower than marked by official reports.

The current level of testing needs to be significantly increased to better monitor the spread as states begin to reopen. Without enough testing, there could be more waves of outbreaks.
