Why We Can't Reopen Yet

Friday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reopened beaches in North Florida. Within minutes, hundreds of locals flooded the beach. Despite pleading from DeSantis to limit beach activity and to continue standing six feet apart, many beachgoers ignored social distancing guidelines.

Also on Friday, 1,400 new infections spiked in Florida. The state has become a hotspot for the coronavirus pandemic, with over 24,000 cases of the virus and nearly 700 deaths.

If we were to reopen America today, it is likely that many more Americans will behave the same way these Floridians did. Social distancing will be practiced less, and more cases will happen.

Even if we reopened and people can go out of their houses more, we should still stand six feet apart and wear masks.
