The YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County has announced an exciting partnership with the Daisy Marquis Jones Foundation for its annual Empowering Women Luncheon, set to take place on September 25 at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center. This collaboration is particularly significant, as the Daisy Marquis Jones Foundation has pledged to be a 2:1 Match Partner, which means that for every dollar donated, they will contribute an additional two dollars, up to a maximum of $50,000. This initiative is expected to substantially amplify fundraising efforts and enhance the YWCA’s ability to support its mission of empowering women and families.
The theme for this year’s luncheon, “Game Changers,” reflects the goals of the partnership and aims to honor individuals who challenge conventional norms and drive transformative change in their communities. A highlight of the event will be the appearance of special guest Nicole Lynn, a prominent sports agent and lawyer recognized by Sports Illustrated as one of the most powerful women in sports. Lynn has made history as the first Black woman to represent a National Football League draft pick and is known for securing one of the most lucrative contracts in NFL history. In addition to her sports career, she is also the author of "Agent You: Show Up, Do the Work, and Succeed on Your Own Terms."
The luncheon will be emceed by WHEC-TV’s Deanna Dewberry, an accomplished anchor and investigative reporter with over 30 years of experience in television news. The schedule for the event includes lunch and a fireside chat with Nicole Lynn, moderated by Dr. Myra Henry, the President and CEO of YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County.
Dr. Myra Henry expressed her enthusiasm for the event, noting the importance of celebrating individuals who inspire change within the community. She stated, “This event not only raises critical funds to support YWCA’s programs and services for women and families but also provides an opportunity for women and our allies to be motivated and inspired by people like Nicole Lynn to impact positive change in their daily walk.”
Funds raised during the Empowering Women Luncheon will directly support various YWCA programs, including shelter services, affordable housing, addiction recovery, workforce development, and community engagement. Tickets for the luncheon are priced at $75 for individual attendees, with tables for ten available for $750. Those interested in attending can find more information and purchase tickets through the YWCA's website.
Additionally, sponsorship opportunities are open for those wishing to further support the event, with inquiries directed to Kim Smith, the Development Director at YWCA. For individuals unable to attend the luncheon, donations can also be made online to contribute to the YWCA’s mission.
